Triumph’s 2019 Scrambler 1200 XC is a naked adventure bike that can handle both street and off-road riding with fine-tuned technology, comfort and style.  The new Scrambler 1200 comes in two variants, the XC and the XE.

The new Scrambler uses a revised version of the 1200cc HP parallel-twin engine found on the Bonneville model.  Improved throttle response gives the Scrambler 1200 a better feel and the XC offers riders five rider modes:  Road, Rain, Sport, Rider Configurable and Off Road. The XC also has electronic cruise control, torque-assist clutch, ride-by-wire technology and a USB charging socket under the seat with a foam-lined box for your phone.  Cornering Optimized ABS and switchable Traction Control further enhance stability and are facilitated by an Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) for an advanced riding experience.

To make the XC especially off-road friendly, the fork tubes are 45mm and allow of 7.87 inches of travel. In addition, the seat sits high at 33.1” for exceptional ground clearance over most terrains.  A wider, adjustable handlebar (with reversible 10mm riser), a longer wheelbase and aluminum, dual-sided swingarm also make the XC a stable off-road bike.  The XC also has a bobbed front fender and a black-out paint job.  The Scrambler has all LED lighting with a DRL headlight, keyless ignition and illuminated switches.

Braking is handled by massive Brembo M50 four piston radial monoblock calipers up front and two-piston floating calipers in back and offers maximum, top-of-the-line stopping power.  The Showa upside down fork is fully adjustable as are the huge, piggyback Ohlins shocks that have been custom made just for the Scrambler.  Side-laced spoke wheels are fitted with Metzeler Tourance tires for on-road and optional Pirelli Scorpion Rally for off-road riding. The Scrambler’s deep-throated song comes through brushed 2 into 2 exhaust with brushed silencers.

Fuel economy has been improved and will allow riders to go on long, on or off-road adventures without thinking about stopping to fill up the 4.2-gallon tank.  The Euro 5 compliant Scrambler averages 40-45 miles per gallon, making a full tank of fuel last around 160-plus miles.  The Scrambler can accommodate a passenger, but if you want to go solo, the rear foot pegs are removable.  The upright riding position allows for all-day comfort in the saddle.  Keep in mind that the XC, in addition to being a more than capable off-road machine, also makes a fine commuter bike.

Changes for the 2022 Scrambler mostly come from the need to have the bike Euro 5 compliant.  New silencers and catalytic converters and a secondary air injection system did the trick but added an additional thirteen pounds.

The Scrambler is the first motorcycle that will integrate GoPro via the dash (available with the My Triumph connectivity module), which is great for those riders that like to get footage of their rides either for Internet presence or simply to keep as reference of where they rode or share footage with friends and family.  There is also an app which allows for Google Maps to be displayed on the new, full color TFT dash (another first for Triumph and is a direct response to questioning riders about what they’d like to see) with three layouts and either high or low contrast viewing.

Triumph offers a line of accessories for the Scrambler that include a small windscreen, a tank bag, a left-side pannier and a 30-liter roll bag, among other goodies, which means that you’ll be able to outfit your Scrambler with everything you need to make it your own.
